Student Travel Brand, Multisite Platform
When Headland Brands (now Better Brands) revitalised World Challenge, the international student travel program running since 1987, Made By Beings joined to connect brand message, design and engineering on a multisite WordPress platform.
Implementing the Design
Translating Headland Vision into Digital Flow
Headland Brands supplied a bold new identity, colour palette and photo story for Cameron, our Head of Design, to translate into an engaging site flow for parents, teachers and students.
The design draws on tactile memories of travel. Layered photography with organic cut-out shapes recalls a holiday photo album, ‘handwritten’ elements echo jotting down a place name in a travel journal and a dashed line winding down the page nods to the treasure maps we drew as kids.
Paired with copy and photography from World Challenge and Headland Brands, the result conveys the stability and reliability at the heart of World Challenge’s service since 1987.
Creating a Robust System
Multisite Architecture Teams Can Self-Manage
Being a complex and multi-layered business, this digital HQ needed to be able to house two sister sites (Australasia and UK) and be easy for the company employees to self-manage. This includes an intuitive employee portal that allows them to add important documents, conditional fields, new trip options and, of course, inbound enquiries!
Both Made By Beings and Headland Brands had a series of healthy and inquisitive functionality discussions with World Challenge so this multi-site solution didn’t just talk the talk, it could walk the walk.
The Extra Special Stuff
Dynamic Homepage Motion and Responsive Craft
Having the opportunity to flex his coding muscles, Cameron relished the chance to create a dynamic and responsive site, especially on the home page. It might not look like much more than a pretty groovy parallax effect, but for the code geeks in the room, if they peek under the hood, they’ll see a smart, efficient and ‘lightweight’ engine that allows this site to load fast, load correctly, every time.
So what did we end up with?

The final result of this awesome teamwork with Headland Brands and Made By Beings was a multisite, photographic, multitextured resplendence, that carries the finesse, technology and reliability that such a well-respected company and service deserves.
